NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The area surrounding the Gare Parking Garage in Northampton was briefly shut down Tuesday afternoon after a report of a suspicious package.
Northampton Deputy Fire Chief David Gagne told 22News they received the call to Armory Street around 3:15 p.m. The Fire Department took joint command with the Northampton Police Department and called in the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit once the area was secured.
The Bomb Squad identified the device as a military strobe light in a small backpack. Gagne said the area behind Thorne’s Marketplace was opened back up to the public after about an hour when it was determined the device was not dangerous.
