UMass Extravaganja fills town common

Amherst police gave the Cannabis Reform Coalition a wide berth

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – If the thousands of visitors to the Amherst town common Saturday have their way, marijuana will be legalized in Massachusetts.

The UMass Cannabis Reform Coalition held their annual daylong outing today on the town common. It was a peaceful gathering where marijuana legalization opponents would be severely outnumbered.

22News couldn’t find soul with anything bad to say about smoking pot.

Steven Cambria of Walpole said, “I think It’s a great idea. Marijuana helps so many people, it’s great for so many people, it’s great for so many things, it brings people together. I think it definitely should happen in Massachusetts.”

Jeff Demers of Monson said, “Obviously they enforce laws about OUI, and you can’t be driving around with it out the window. Absolutely the legalization is getting larger, and hopefully it’ll get more and more decriminalizing.”

Amherst police gave the Cannabis Reform Coalition a wide berth, keeping an eye on activities along with encouraging visitors to use parking designated for the annual event.
