EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — An 8-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car on Thursday night.
Police say the boy was hit in an accident that involved two vehicles. Police say the drivers were cited for motor vehicle violations and the investigation is continuing.
Family members who gathered to mourn him on Friday night said the boy was Carlos Hernandez. They placed candles and balloons near the site on Burnside Avenue where he was struck. He died Friday at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
Family members tell WTNH-TV the boy had chased a football into the street just before he was struck at about 6 p.m.
WVIT-TV reports East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc released a statement of sympathy for the family, saying “as a community we grieve with them.”
