Bus carrying students engulfed in flames on I-90

UConn sent smaller buses to pick up the stranded students

CHARLTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A bus on the way to UConn burst into flames Saturday afternoon.

State Police Sgt. Johnathan Swift told 22News this bus was carrying about 50 students from the University of Connecticut. This happened on I-90 in Charlton near the toll plaza at Exit 9.

It was on its way to Boston when the engine started to smoke just after 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon. The driver pulled over and the students were all able to get out.

Sgt. Swift said UConn sent smaller buses to pick up the stranded students, and bring them back.
