Music Festival Tech: Keeping in touch

(NBC News) Music festivals, including this week’s Coachella, are expected to draw 32 million people around the country this year.

That’s a lot of fuel for social media.

“If you’re taking pictures and video all day at a festival, it’s really easy to run down your smartphone battery really quickly,” warns NBC News Senior Tech Writer Julianne Pepitone.

Portable battery packs like Mophie can give your phone a battery boost without needing a power outlet.

Their $50 model attaches to your keychain.

If you’ve got power, but no service, gotenna can keep you in range when your service isn’t.

“GoTenna was actually inspired in part because of the experience of going to music festivals and not being able to get a message through,” says cofounder and CEO Daniela Perdomo.

The Gotenna is sold in pairs for about $150 dollars and can keep you and another festival-goer connected via Bluetooth. It’s available for pre-order now and will ship this summer, just in time for Lollapalooza.
