Social workers grant wishes of foster children

Hasbro made sure each child went home with a new toy or game

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Saturday in Eastampton, foster children, their foster parents, and social workers gathered for a day of wishes.

The Treehouse Foundation of Easthampton partnered with the non-profit organization One Simple Wish to grant the wishes of these foster kids. They got a chance to meet each other, hear each other’s stories, play on the playground, see a magician, and do some crafting.

Volunteers who’ve been through the foster care system told 22News they know what’s important to these kids.

Volunteer Jessica Terkelsen said, “My favorite thing to see is to see kids smile. Especially after being in the foster care system it seems a little hard to keep smiling, but for me my biggest goal is to just keep making people smile.”

Adoption social worker Jennifer Swetland said, “I think today is great. It’s a good opportunity to bring some foster children together and to meet each other and also they are getting to feel special, they are playing.”

Toymaker Hasbro made sure each child went home with a new toy or game.

The Treehouse Foundation began a community in Easthampton where foster families live close together and support each other.
