HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut anglers are celebrating the unofficial end of winter with the official start of fishing season.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection stocked the state’s lakes, ponds and rivers with 341,000 trout in advance of Saturday morning’s opening.  They hope to have put more than 610,000 of the fish into the waterways by May.

The state has 11 designated Trout Parks where officials have set up picnic areas near waterways that have each been stocked with about 450 fish.

The state says the lingering snow and ice will affect some areas. Some ponds still have ice on them, and some boat launches are not yet accessible.
