INDIA (NBC News) – Eight people were killed and five others injured on Friday when a nine-seat jeep carrying 13 people fell into a gorge in northern India.
The car was completely destroyed after it fell nearly 500 feet.
Police rushed to the scene and residents helped them in the rescue operation.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
India is the world’s capital of road deaths due to poor road planning, weak law enforcement, a surge in vehicles, and a flood of untrained drivers.
