SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A former Springfield elementary school teacher is facing charges for allegedly sending an inappropriate photo to a former student.
Michael Cieboter was a teacher at the Mary O. Pottenger Elementary School in East Springfield. He is accused of sending a picture of his buttocks to a middle school student. He then asked her to delete the photo because it wasn’t meant for her.
His lawyer says it was all just a mistake, and believes Cieboter will be exonerated.
Azell Cavaan, spokesperson for the Springfield Public Schools, told 22News Cieboter is no longer an employee of the district.
Cavaan said the district’s social media guidelines don’t prohibit teachers from ‘friending’ on social media or communicating with students, but they’re expected to behave professionally. She said they remind staff one something is sent or said online, there’s no protecting it. Click here to read the school department’s social media guidelines.
