Springfield officers hurt in early morning pursuit

Police: The officers were trying to stop a car reportedly driven by a suicidal man with a gun

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two Springfield Police Officers are being treated for minor injuries at Baystate Medical Center, following an accident during a pursuit.

Springfield Police Captain Robert Strzempek told 22News that around 1:00 Tuesday morning, the officers were trying to stop a car reportedly driven by a suicidal man with a gun.

According to Captain Strzempek, the man’s car bounced off an abutment on the ramp from Longhill Street to I-91 South, and struck the cruiser with the two officers inside.

The driver was also taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
