(KSBW) The Santa Cruz Water Commission implemented a stage-three water emergency Monday, which will bring back mandatory water rationing.
Since December, the city saw three inches of rain, so city leaders said it’s better to focus on conservation before things get worse.
“This is an unprecedented drought,” Santa Cruz Water Department representative Eileen Cross said. “We’ve had droughts in the past, but we haven’t had droughts of this severity and frankly with climate change, we really don’t know what the future holds, so we have to manage our supply as conservatively as we can.”
