(NBC News) A swarm of bees brought extra excitement to the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday.
As President Obama was reading “Where The Wild Things Are” to a group of children, a swarm of bees from the White House hive flew over the group, prompting a chorus of screams.
The president tried to hold back his laughter as he assured the kids the bees meant no harm, but the screams continued.
Eventually, the bees flew away and the reading continued.
At the end, the president joked to the kids, “If you’re a wild thing, you can’t be scared of bees.”
The White House hive is on the south lawn, and there’s even an official beekeeper. The hive generates honey which is used in the white house kitchen, and the bees help pollinate the garden.
