It's been 30 years since the rescue mission began its holiday meal tradition

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield rescue mission provided hundreds of homeless men and women with Easter dinner late this Saturday afternoon.

When 22News got out the word that the Rescue mission Easter dinner needed deserts, there was enormous response to help complete the meal for the homeless.

Those who attended told 22News, they’re so pleased the rescue mission invites them every year. Jose Bacille said, “It’s great for us to be here because people that we help out, I’m a graduate of the program, I’m looking forward to helping other people.”

“It’s a fulfilling thing, I mean God bless them they always take good care of us and the guests that come.” said Danny Renta.

It’s been 30 years since the rescue mission began its holiday meal tradition for the homeless, both breakfast and dinner the day before Easter Sunday.

Director Ron Willoughbey told 22News It’s vital that those who are on the street, those who may be sleeping in doorway know there are people who really care for them.
