Community center programs put kids on the right path

The youngsters, age 4 to 14, received their trophies for basketball Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – More than 100 children from Springfield’s inner city neighborhoods took a positive step in their young lives Saturday.

They’re members of the Martin Luther King Community Center basketball program. These youngsters, age 4 to 14, received their trophies Saturday. They’re feeling good about themselves and what they’ve accomplished.

Program director George Blake told 22News what they learn is more than just basketball.

Blake said, “We have some coaches that are about life skills, about school work, being better sons and daughters, so we’re trying to cover more than just basketball.”

With so much in the news about young people losing their way between what’s right and wrong, the Martin Luther King Community Center takes pride in its programs putting kids on the right path.
