SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Open Pantry’s big Easter dinner is only two days away, but they don’t have nearly enough volunteers to help serve it. As of Friday morning, the organization only had seven people signed-up to help out for Sunday’s dinner at the High School of Commerce.
Executive Director Allison Maynard told 22News that they need dozens of volunteers to serve the meals, and to clean up afterwards.
She said that due to the long winter and unseasonably cold weather, a lot of people may not have been paying attention to the fact that Easter was coming up, which may have contributed to the lack of volunteers.
Those interested in helping may call the Pantry at (413) 737-5337. Volunteers should show up by 11:30 at Commerce for the meal, which will be served at noon.
If you would like to make a financial contribution, those can be mailed to: Open Pantry Community Services, P.O. Box 5127, Springfield, MA 01101-5127.
