(NBC News) It is a story of survival, determination and the sheer will to live.
Rescued after more than two months at sea, 37-year old Louis Jordan was found Thursday adrift on the open ocean, clinging to life on his capsized sailboat.
He was spotted by a German cargo ship and hoisted to safety by the coast guard about 200 miles off the coast of North Carolina.
Reunited with his family, Jordan says he prayed every day for rain and survived by catching fish and drinking rain water while rationing his provisions.
Jordan had been missing since January, but was able to walk off the coast guard chopper in good condition, with no signs of sunburn or dehydration.
Now he’s back on dry land, and while Jordan says he doesn’t know if he’ll ever sail again, he plans to write a book about his ordeal.
