MONTAGUE, Mass. (WWLP) – Fire burned through the roof of a Montague home early Friday morning, but the house’s human and feline residents were able to make it out unharmed.
Firefighters were called to the home at 86 Taylor Hill Road shortly before 4:00 Friday morning.
Montague Center Assistant Fire Chief Dave Hansen told 22News that the woman who lived there and her cat were able to escape safely. They cannot return to the heavily damaged home, and are staying with the woman’s relatives nearby.
Firefighters are now trying to figure out what caused the fire.
“It seems to have started in the living room area, possibly near the wood stove and the chimney, but that’s inconclusive at the moment,” Hansen said.
The state fire marshal’s office is also investigating the cause.
