Police witness heroin sale, arrest suspect in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Springfield was arrested Wednesday after a drug investigation into a 4th floor apartment on Belmont Avenue.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News 31-year-old Shayeb Fernandez of Springfield is facing three different counts of drug charges after police obtained a search warrant for 36 Belmont Avenue, and set up surveillance.

Early Wednesday morning, detectives watched Fernandez leave his apartment and make a heroin deal near a local market. Sgt. Delaney said a raid team moved in and arrested Fernandez on the street.

Officers then searched his apartment and found 24 bags of Heroin, 20 bags of Crack Cocaine, a quantity of Marijuana, $548 in cash, and drug paraphernalia, Sgt. Delaney said. Fernandez was charged with Possession of Heroin With Intent to Distribute, Possession of Crack Cocaine With Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Distribute

Fernandez was arraigned on Thursday in Springfield District Court.
