BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — A North Stonington man has pleaded guilty to tax evasion and financial structuring charges. John Zelepos, 48, is the owner of Mystic Pizza in Mystic.
Court documents show, over a period of four years Zelepos took more than $560,000 from the business and put the money into his and his family’s personal bank accounts. Zelepos also purposefully tried to avoid paying income tax on the money.
Zelepos reached a plea deal in U.S. District Court on Wednesday. As part of that plea he must pay back a large sum of money plus interest and penalties. He also pleaded guilty to other charges.
Zelepos will be sentenced June 23, 2015. He’s facing up to 15 years in prison plus a fine up to $500,000.
