Man arrested after being caught dragging child out of store

RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) —  A man accused of dragging a child out of a store by the neck of his sweatshirt has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Investigators distributed security camera photographs to the media asking the community to call the Sheriff’s confidential TIP-Hotline to help identify the man captured in the photographs dragging the child, accompanied by an unknown female.

With community input, Abayomi M. Akimbode, 26, from Bennington, Vermont, has been identified and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Akimbode was arraigned at Brunswick town court on March 26. He was released on his and is to return to court on April 8, 2015.

“This is a perfect example of the community and law enforcement working together in protecting its citizens,” said Rensselaer County’s Undersheriff Pat Russo.
