EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Heating costs for most western Massachusetts residents went up dramatically this winter, due to the brutally cold temperatures. But businesses owners are also feeling the hardships.
Chris Graziano, owner of Graziano Gardens in East Longmeadow, spent $2,500 heating his greenhouse just in the two harshest months of the year, January and February. The greenhouse wasn’t even full of plants at the time, but Graziano says it was a wise investment nonetheless.
“If I didn’t heat the building and four feet of snow accumulates on the glass, it’d come down and If I didn’t heat it, the insurance company will cancel my insurance. I have to heat it,” Graziano said.
Graziano said that he will not be passing the cost of the heating bills onto the customer. He said that with the economy and the competition in the market, it is just a cost of doing business.
