WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s something that might surprise you. About 40% of us don’t use all of our paid vacation time.

A new survey by Alamo Rent A Car found four-in-10 Americans don’t use all of their paid vacation days. When asked why, 47% said they were too busy at work to take off.

Half of those surveyed said they don’t unplug while on vacation, with one in four reporting they worked every day of their vacations.

However, one feeding hills resident told 22News if he’s getting the time off, he’s taking it.

“It’s very important. I’ve got kids and I have to have time with the family,” said Mikhail Mudrenko of Feeding Hills. “I think every six months you need to refresh.”

The study also revealed some interesting travel trends. Thirty-one percent of Americans prefer beach vacations or somewhere sunny and warm, beating out theme parks, cruises and ski trips.

Fifty-three percent use screen time on vacation to keep everyone entertained during the flight or drive to their destination. Dads are also more likely than moms to approve the use of electronic devices for their children while on vacation.
