SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A water main break in Springfield has traffic down to a single lane on one of the city’s busiest streets.
The break happened during the early morning hours on Bay Street in the Pine Point neighborhood, not far from the intersection of Hood Street.
A three-block stretch of Bay Street was closed to all traffic until about 9:30 A.M., when a single lane of the road re-opened to traffic (police have been directing traffic to allow both directions to alternately pass.) Mulvaney told 22News that crews originally expected to have the work complete by 3:00 P.M., but now they don’t expect to be able to re-open both lanes until about 4:00, and that will only be for a temporary patch.
Mulvaney said that the road will be down to a single lane again between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Friday as their work continues.
Six Springfield Water and Sewer Commission customers have lost service as a result of the break.
