Increased chances for flooding this time of the year

Rivers are expected to stay below flood stage

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – With milder temperatures and the rain, we’ll have to keep an eye on area rivers and streams over the next few days.

Right now, the Connecticut River in Agawam is well within its banks. However, with milder temperatures leading to melting snow and some heavy rain in the forecast, a lot of that water will be going into area rivers and streams. Most areas are expected to pick up about an inch of rain with 1 to possibly 2 inches of melting possible.

Kate Gadbois of Westfield told 22News, “Oh I think that might very well be an issue. Not so much where I live in Westfield but I think about he Connecticut River in Holyoke and South Hadley. They’ve seen floods from this coming down from Vermont. I think it could be a problem.”

While we could see some minor street and stream flooding, area rivers are expected to stay below flood stage.
