Airline fees can dig into travel money

Travel changes, seat selection and priority boarding will all cost you extra.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – If you plan on traveling in the near future, plan on spending a little more, especially if you’re flying. There are often charges many people don’t know about at checkout.

If you make any changes to your travel plans it’ll cost you about $200 on average.

Want to choose your seat, so you can sit next to someone you know? That’s extra $50. Priority boarding will also cost you $50 and plan on $25 to check a piece of luggage.

That’s why one Springfield resident said, she decided to drive to Florida last year!

“For a good vacation, you want to get it at a good price range and if flying could limit you to that price range, you’re not going to go ahead and fly, you’d rather just drive there even if it takes a longer time, at least you have more money to spend,” said Wenwu Howard, of Springfield.

Right now, the U.S. Travel Association is asking Congress to boost passenger facility charges by $4 per-ticket.
