Wilbraham-Ludlow bridge closing for safety concerns

Red Bridge deemed unsafe by Mass DOT

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – A bridge that crosses the Chicopee River, connecting Ludlow and Wilbraham, will be closed for the foreseeable future, due to safety concerns.

Wilbraham Police Capt. Timothy Kane notified 22News that the Red Bridge is being shut down by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The bridge is one of two that connects Wilbraham and Ludlow (not counting the bridge over the Massachusetts Turnpike or the Putts Bridge between Indian Orchard and Ludlow), and is frequently used by drivers heading between Ludlow and the Three Rivers section of Palmer.

Specific information about the nature of the safety concerns was not immediately available. 22News has contacted Mass DOT for additional details.
