BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Three of Beacon Hill’s most powerful politicians want to hire an expert to look at the risks involved with hosting the Olympic Games in Boston.

Governor Charlie Baker, along with Senate President Stan Rosenberg and Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo are seeking an independent review of the “Boston 20-24 Summer Olympic” plan.

The leaders issued a “request for response,” asking consultants to submit bids to conduct the analysis.

They plan to spend no more than $250,000. Taxpayers will be footing that bill.

Governor Baker said he’s looking for someone with expertise in Olympic development to examine the role state government would play if Boston is chosen to host the 20-24 Summer Olympics.

House Speaker Robert DeLeo said his top priority is protecting tax dollars. “My major interest that I have is to see that no taxpayer money is used in this process.”

The leaders plan to hire a consultant by the end of April, with a report due in July.
