HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – One of the Holyoke St. Patrick Parade’s original organizers passed away Sunday.
Daniel Tierney was 87-years-old. He served on the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade Committee for more than six decades. Tierney passed away Sunday, on the day of the famed parade.
He was on his way into the St. Patrick’s Ambassador’s Award breakfast at the Yankee Pedlar when he had a heart attack.
Longtime friend Barbara Bernard was there. She told 22News, “Very knowledgeable and he had an interesting life. He was an orphan. He was really a self-made man. He was as bright as could be and hard worker. He loved the St. Patrick’s Parade.”
Tierney received many honors over the years for his lifelong contributions to making the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade a success.
