HOLYOKE, Mass (WWLP) — It’s a moment many local residents have been waiting for, the 64th annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade.
22News is working for you with everything you’ll need to know if you’re bringing your family to Holyoke Sunday afternoon.
Northampton Street in Holyoke is the beginning of the parade route, and an area known to attract a large crowd. This year, they’re expecting to draw in nearly 400 thousand spectators. The parade kicks off at 12:00 in the afternoon, and the marching will begin by the K-Mart Plaza.
This is more than a Saint Patrick’s celebration for many people in western Massachusetts. The very first parade was held in 1952 to honor the city’s Irish heritage.
Every year, thousands of spectators line up along the route to watch international bands, festive floats, the Colleen Court, and even our family here at 22News.
The 2.6 mile route begins on Northampton Street, goes to Beech Street, Appleton Street, High Street, and Hampden Street.
If you’re driving to the parade, many side streets will be available to park on, but you’re not allowed to block any private driveways. Holyoke Police Department is also asking residents to comply with any temporary “no-parking” signs along the route.
The parade starts at noon, and it is pretty cold outside this morning but its bearable, so make sure to bundle up for pack extra clothes if you do decide to come to the parade.
If you take any pictures from the parade, we want to see them. You can send them over to us at ReportIt@wwlp.com.
And make sure to keep an eye out for the 22News team, we’ll be marching in the parade.
