Springfield firefighters promoted after years of service

Jones has been a firefighter in Springfield for 20 years

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – After years of experience, two Springfield firefighters climbed the career ladder.

Kelly Jones and Edward Pason were promoted to Fire Lieutenant Thursday morning. It’s an appropriate title for the two firefighters, who’ve been on the force for years.

In the rank of command, fire lieutenant is a position up from a firefighter. It’s not an easy promotion to come by.

Jones has been a firefighter in Springfield for 20 years, joining the department in 1995. “I think it’s the greatest job in the world, and I’m honored and feel blessed to be able to serve the community in this type of capacity. And that feeling of just being able to help someone, it’s something that you just can’t explain.”

Pason, who also moved up the ranks Thursday, has been a part of Springfield’s Fire Department since 1997, and said every day on the job is a good one.

When we asked him whether he set any new goals for his new position, he said he just wants to become the best mentor he can.
