CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – We’ve looked forward to slightly milder temperatures for some relief from this long, cold winter, and for some help in melting all this snow. But while the big thaw is a welcome sign of spring, it can also bring on some expensive flooding issues in your home.
Leaks, faulty drains, overflowing gutters, and plugged downspouts can cause messy damage if you don’t pay attention.
Gisele Gilpatrick from Pro-Tech Waterproofing Solutions says, “Extending those down spouts. People don’t realize it. Get 8-10 feet away from the building, and that’s going to make a big difference. Getting your exit line clear. The snow has piled up and the exit line is frozen.”
Also, make sure your sump pump is connected correctly to a drainage system that discharges away from the house, and not toward it.
