SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The mortality rate from Cancer isn’t a subject you would expect 6th graders to be studying. But, on Thursday, 11 and 12-year-old students at Baystate Academy Charter Public School in Springfield held a health fair at the YMCA.
The science-minded students used their writing skills to advance their medical curiosity by editing a cancer survivor’s notebook.
“We have cancer survivors come, we have typed up written questions. We will write the questions and edit the answers,” said 6th grader Rachel Durham.
The new Springfield Charter School has an enrollment of more than 200 students. The school’s designed to help their students advance their interests to pursue careers in health and science.
