WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Traffic has been re-opened on Route 20 in West Springfield after a falling tree took down power lines and a utility pole Tuesday night.
“There were wires and a pole across Route 20,” West Springfield Police Officer Brian Battista told 22News. No one was hurt.
Eversource Energy crews were working on repairing the lines. The tree, wires and pole came down at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, in the vicinity of “Little George’s” restaurant, across from the church building that used to house a now-closed Big Y.
Officer Battista told 22News that it appears the wind toppled a tree onto the power linees which, in turn, pulled down the utility pole. The Eversource Energy crew will have to safely remove the wires from the roadway, and likely replace the pole.
There was no traffic getting through on Westfield Street, Route 20 between West Springfield and Westfield for a number of hours late Tuesday into early Wednesday morning. That stretch of road was re-opened shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
