HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Businesses in Holyoke and Chicopee have been waiting for the Willimansett Bridge to reopen, and it looks like that’s finally going to happen this summer.
The state hired a new contractor and the bridge is now expected to reopen this July. The owner of Capri Pizza in Holyoke hopes some of their old customers come back when they’re easier to get to.
“First year was very very bad for us. We were down about 25-30% but recently it’s been coming back slowly but surely, and we’re hoping once that opens up it brings business back to Holyoke,” says Gennaro Santaniello, Capri Pizza.
The bridge closed in 2011 and work stopped for six months when the original contractor went bankrupt.
