Skateboarder in critical condition after Agawam hit & run

Police believe they have found the car responsible.

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) Agawam Police have new information on a hit and run that left a 16-year-old seriously injured Monday night.

Agawam Police Sgt. Jennifer Blanchette told 22News the victim appears to have been skateboarding on Springfield Street in Agawam, around 9:11 p.m., when he was struck by a vehicle. The car then drove away from the accident.

Blanchette told 22News Agawam Police are still investigating the hit and run, but they do believe they have found the car responsible, which has been impounded.

Monday night, Agawam Police Department and the State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit found a black passenger mirror on the ground near the victim, leading them to believe the driver was in a black car, with a missing a mirror and damaged windshield.

Blanchette said the victim was rushed to Baystate Medical Center by ambulance shortly after the accident, and remains in critical condition. The Agawam Police Department isn’t releasing any information on the victim yet because he is a minor.

The Agawam Police Department is conducting the investigation with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Team and MSP Crime Scene Services.
