Holyoke's annual parade will be held Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – People across western Massachusetts celebrated St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday.

Springfield Mayor Dominic Sarno honored the holiday by raising the flag of Ireland Tuesday morning. He also recognized the Springfield Parade Committee’s award winners.

Molly Sullivan, Springfield’s Colleen this year, told 22News this day is a tribute to her family who immigrated to America to pursue a better life. “St. Patrick’s Day is a big day of celebration. We certainly celebrate our heritage throughout the year. But St. Patrick’s day is the highlight of our year.”

Sullivan and her court will represent the city of Springfield in Sunday’s St. Patrick’s Parade in Holyoke.
