SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Hundreds of hearty souls took a cool dip in the Connecticut River for a good cause Sunday. Coming one week before the Holyoke St. Patrick’s parade, the 6th annual Leprechaun plunge at Brunelle’s Marina in South Hadley was the destination for hundreds of plungers.
They found it worth the brief chill in 30 degree water for that good, warm feeling that comes from raising a lot of money to help important causes such as the Springfield Shriners hospital.
Steve Bebehd told 22News, “It’s cold it’s a great cause and a lot of fun. The committee has done a great job to put this event together for everybody that comes here.”
The one hundred twenty thousand dollars raised during the 2014 Leprechaun plunge benefited the Jimmy Fund, and the pioneer Valley USO in addition to South Hadley’s food pantry and young programs.
