St. Mary’s Parish in Longmeadow hosts Shamrock Celebration

Hundreds of families dressed in green filled the Father Forham Auditorium at St. Mary's Academy

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – For the past 25 years the annual Shamrock Celebration has preceded the Holyoke St. Patrick’s parade by one week.

St. Mary’s Parish in Longmeadow again hosted this pre-St. Patrick’s week celebration. Hundreds of families dressed in green filled the Father Forham Auditorium at St. Mary’s Academy. They came to share their heritage.

Jared Kiernan of Longmeadow told 22News, “It’s a wonderful thing; coming to St. Mary’s, seeing the young children having fun, eating soda bread, having a corned beef sandwich. It’s all about being Irish.”

Leah Kenney of Holyoke said, “Well St. Patrick’s Day is two days from now, then the big weekend; the road race on Saturday and the parade on Sunday, big week.”

That big week began Sunday with the Shamrock Celebration at St. Mary’s in Longmeadow.
