SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Beginning in May, Springfield will no longer be part of the emergency communications network linking servicemen and women with their families.
For years the emergency network operated out of the Pioneer Valley Red Cross center in Springfield. Saturday, the American Red Cross Director of Communications notified 22News they’re closing call centers in Springfield and San Diego, California. 38 jobs will be lost, 14 of them in Springfield.
Saturday’s announcement assured military families the new system at the remaining call centers will maintain the same level of service. The Springfield center will close May 8th.
