Plans in a pipeline expansion project involve Longmeadow

The company argues it would help lower energy costs

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Kinder Morgan released a new report, outlining their plans for a pipeline expansion project. Those plans now involve Longmeadow.

In the report, Kinder Morgan said it plans to build two new meter stations in Massachusetts, one in Longmeadow, the other in Deerfield. These meter stations would record and monitor the amount of natural gas entering the expanded pipeline system. One Longmeadow resident told 22News she doesn’t want her town to be a part of it.

“I think the appeal to Longmeadow is that it’s a quaint town and it seems like lately there has been a lot of development. Longmeadow seems to be the answer to a lot of things and I think it’s changing the character of the town,” said Ida Colon Perez of Longmeadow.

Although many residents are against a natural gas pipeline expansion, the company argues it would help lower energy costs, at a time when electric rates have skyrocketed.
