Springfield, Mass. (Springfield Falcons) – The Springfield Falcons were edged by the Hartford Wolf Pack, 2-1, in overtime Friday night at the MassMutual Center.

By making it to overtime, the Falcons pick up one point and hold their position as second in the Northeast Division with 71 points, while they move to 32-22-7-0 on the season. The Falcons also trail the Wolf Pack 2-2-3-0 in the 10-game season series.

Falcons goaltender Scott Munroe stopped 30 of 32 shots faced. Goaltender Yann Davis turned aside 26 of 27 for the Wolf Pack. Springfield was unable to convert on four power play opportunities, while Hartford went one-for-four on the man-advantage.

The Wolf Pack took the lead on a power-play tally with 1:15 remaining in the opening period. Munroe made the save on the initial shot from Ryan Haggerty, but Justin Vaive was able to chip in the rebound to put Hartford on the board. The secondary assist went to Danny Kristo.

T.J. Tynan evened the score at the 4:45 mark of the second period. With Danis out of position, Tynan gained control of the puck, which ricocheted off the post, to light the lamp for his eighth of the season. Sean Collins and Frederic St. Denis picked up points for the assists.

A scoreless third period forced overtime. The Falcons and Wolf Pack have required extra time in five of the seven times they have faced each other this season.

During three-on-three play in the overtime period, Hartford found the back of the net. Chris Mueller carried the puck across the blue line and dropped a pass for Ryan Bourque. A cross-slot feed set Conor Allen up for a one-timer that beat Munroe and gave the Wolf Pack a 2-1 victory at the 5:09 mark.

The Falcons stay at The Nest to host the Providence Bruins on Saturday, March 14 at 7 p.m. for St. Patrick’s Day presented by Gary Rome Auto Group.
