TROY, N.Y. (AP) — A 26-year-old convicted sex offender has pleaded guilty to kidnapping charges stemming from a series of crimes authorities say he committed in upstate New York and western Massachusetts last fall.
Local media report that Shane Harding of Schodack, N.Y. pleaded guilty Wednesday in Rensselaer County Court to two counts of kidnapping.
Harding used a BB gun to force a 47-year-old woman to give him a ride in Troy on Sept. 30. The woman escaped and contacted police, prompting a manhunt.
He later forced a woman he knew to drive him to Hancock, Massachusetts, where he raped her. He returned to the Albany area, where he forced a man to drive him around a three-county region north of the city.
Harding was eventually caught Oct. 1 in the woods near Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs.
