Travelers come to Florida from all parts of the world to experience our sandy beaches and theme parks. But, there could soon be another reason for people to vacation in the sunshine state if a proposal to build the nation’s largest shopping mall is approved.

Triple Five Worldwide is the company that owns and operates the Mall of America, a massive entertainment and shopping complex in Minnesota. The complex would include hundreds of retail stores, restaurants, an indoor ski slope, water park, submarine ride, sea lion show and much more.

Triple Five has its sights set on turning a piece of pastureland at the intersection of Interstate 4 and Florida’s Turnpike in Miami-Dade County into the largest shopping mall and entertainment complex in the U.S.

Triple Five submitted its proposal for the 225-acre “American Dream Miami” to Miami-Dade County. The project, which would be near Miami Lakes, would cost up to $4 billion to build and include 520 stores and 50 restaurants, according to a Miami Herald report.

A completion date for the proposed project has not been released. Miami-Dade County commissioners are scheduled to vote on a proposed land deal for the project on March 17. The land deal involves the state and school district.

County documents obtained by state that the project is expected to employ 25,000 construction workers during the building stage and American Dream Miami would employ 25,000 people when completed. No completion date for the project was listed in county documents.
