SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police have released the identity of the man killed in Springfield’s fourth homicide of 2015. Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney says that they are still looking for suspects in connection with the deadly stabbing of Alexis Perez-Melendez of 3 Providence St. in Springfield.
Delaney says that police were called to 56 High Street shortly after 9:00 Monday night for a report of a man being stabbed in the leg. Inside the apartment building, police found a trail of blood that led them to a second floor stairwell, where they found Perez-Melendez. He was brought to the hospital, but died at around 10:15.
Detectives working the case believe the stabbing most likely involved a dispute over drugs, Delaney said.
