WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – It’s still cold outside, but some sunshine helped melt some of the snow and ice.
That cycle of melting during the day and re-freezing at night has caused icicles to form along the edge of our roofs.
“I mean it’s warmer now. When it gets up to 30 degrees and you feel temperate. We have a little bit of melting just from the past couple days from the roof. It’s dripping down to the side of the house,” George Murphy said.
When those icicles grow larger, they pose a danger to people and property. They can bring down the gutter and when the sun shines directly on those icicles, they can fall with force.
An eight-ounce icicle could cause significant damage or injury if it falls from a tall building.
