Holyoke man sentenced for shooting at cop

Officer William Delgado was responding to a report "shots fired"

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Holyoke who shot at a city police officer has been sentenced to up to 17 years in prison.

Pedro Arroyo was sentenced Monday in Hampden Superior Court. The jury found him guilty of several charges including armed assault with intent to murder.

Prosecutors say the 23-year-old fired on Officer William Delgado in January 2014. Delgado was responding to a report “shots fired” when he asked Arroyo and another person to stop.

Arroyo shot at Delgado, missed, and Delgado returned fire; no one was struck.
