Boy calling police leads to charges against mother

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A young boy is now staying with another family member while his mother is dealing with charges of endangering the welfare of a minor.

Police in Cheektowaga say a 5-year-old called in to 911 and hung up. When the dispatcher called back, they say the boy told police he was hungry, scared and wanted his mother. He said he’d been alone all night.

An officer drove to the Garden Village Apartments residence to check on the child’s safety, finding he was home alone with two dogs. The child told the officer he was hungry, so the officer made him a bowl of cereal while the Cheektowaga Police Department attempted to find the boy’s mother or family.

Eventually police contacted the grandmother, and an hour later, 25-year-old mother Kylesha Monterro showed up to the house and was promptly arrested. Police charged her with endangering the welfare of a minor and released her after contacting child protective services.
