This record breaking winter isn’t finished yet

72.6" fell in the Boston area; 43" fell in the lower Pioneer Valley

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Our latest winter storm broke the 30 day snowfall record in Boston. The previous record for snow over a 30 day period in Boston was 58.8″ set back in February of 1978.

This latest winter storm brought a total of 72.6″ of snow to the Boston area breaking the 30 day snowfall record, and all that snow came in the past 17 days. Any additional snowfall over the next 13 days will only add to the new record.

In western Massachusetts, it hasn’t been record breaking, but we’ve almost picked up our annual average snowfall with the rest of February, March and April left to bring us additional snow.

We’ve recorded 43″ of snow in the lower Pioneer Valley since October, in a typical year 48″ of snow falls. Over 20 inches of this came in the past 10 days.
