Winter Storm Warning in effect for all of WMass

Snow returns Sunday afternoon through Monday.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) –  A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday for Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Counties and for Berkshire County until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

This prolonged storm is a bit different from the storms we’ve had so far this winter in terms of the duration and varying intensity. The storm will continue through Monday and the snow will increase in intensity.

Here’s what we can expect:

Timing:

  • Steadier snow showers return later Sunday afternoon.
  • Snow turns heavier Sunday night through all of Monday

Accumulation:

  • Additional Snow by Sunday evening (7pm): Coating-2″
  • Additional Snow Sunday night-Monday morning (7PM-7AM): 4-6″, higher amounts north and west.
  • Monday from 7am through Monday Night: 4-6″, higher amounts north and west.
  • Storm Totals: 8-12″ of snow across western Massachusetts when the snow ends Monday Night, there could be a big difference between valley snow totals and those in the hills to the north and west. Berkshires and the hills in western Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Counties could see over 1 foot of snow.

Impacts

  • Monday’s morning and evening commutes are likely to be the most impacted by the snow.
  • Sunday night might feature some slippery roads, but the snow will be more manageable this weekend.
