Snowmobile rider dies after crashing into tree

Silva died at the scene

NORTH STRATFORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire Fish and Game officers say a Massachusetts man on a snowmobile has died after crashing into a tree in the North Country.

Officers believe 39-year-old David Silva from Dunstable became distracted and missed a corner beforecrashing at about 6 p.m. Thursday on a trail in North Stratford. He suffered serious injuries. One companion stayed with him while another went to a residence in Columbia and called for help.

Rescue crews from Groveton, Stratford and Colebrook all responded to the scene, which was nearly 5 miles into the woods from the nearest plowed road and accessible only by snowmobile. Despite their efforts, Silva died at the scene.
